"Of the People, by the People, and for the People" should not degenerate into "Of the government, by the government, and for the government."
Below are two very different views concerning the role and purpose of government and the rights and importance of the States and the individual citizen. Judging from what has been happening in Washington D.C., I believe many of you need a refresher course in History, especially American History. The excerpts I have chosen were picked for their relevance to certain recent acts that have been "crammed" through suddenly, by the Office of the President and the United States Congress such as the GIVE Act and the Stimulus Bill. The only conclusion I can reach is that these acts were intentionally forced through quickly to impede the ability of the American People to know what is hitting them! The same thing is being attempted with the Health Care Reform proposals. However, citizens are more aware of the tactics and are fighting back!
It is also becoming clear that other actions are being planned and implemented in other areas such as Gun Control, Immigration, Card Check, the act formerly known as "The Fairness Doctrine", Taxation, and on and on.....I respectfully request that you Read and Remember Who You Actually Work For.!
First is the American Tradition
Article I Section 2: The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the..States. - The United States Constitution
Article I Section 3: The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State. - The United States Constitution
Article I Section 9: No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of the Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time. - The United States Constitution
Article I Section 9: No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States, and no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from and King, Prince, or foreign state. - The United States Constitution
Amendment X: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, not prohibited by the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people. - The United States Constitution
"A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government." - Thomas Jefferson
"Dependence begets subservience and venality, suffocates the germ of virtue, and prepares fit tools for the designs of ambition." - Thomas Jefferson
"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." - Thomas Jefferson
"It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. " - Thomas Jefferson
Compare to the Principles Below
(Specific Excerpts From) The Principles of Communism
Written: October-November 1847; Frederick Engels
The slave frees himself when, of all the relations of private property, he abolishes only the relation of slavery and thereby becomes a proletarian; …The proletarian liberates himself by abolishing competition, private property, and all class differences.
What will be the course of this revolution?
Democracy would be wholly valueless to the proletariat if it were not immediately used as a means for putting through measures directed against private property and ensuring the livelihood of the proletariat.... (Just 7 of 12 Listed Steps)
(i) Limitation of private property through progressive taxation, heavy inheritance taxes,...
(ii) Gradual expropriation of landowners, industrialists, railroad magnates and shipowners...
(iv) Organization of labor or employment of proletarians on publicly owned land, in factories and workshops, with competition among the workers being abolished and with the factory owners, in so far as they still exist, being obliged to pay the same high wages as those paid by the state.
(v) An equal obligation on all members of society to work until such time as private property has been completely abolished. Formation of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.
(vi) Centralization of money and credit in the hands of the state through a national bank with state capital, and the suppression of all private banks and bankers.
(vii) Increase in the number of national factories, workshops, railroads, ships;...
(viii) Education of all children, from the moment they can leave their mother’s care, in national establishments at national cost. Education and production together.
What will be the influence of communist society on the family?
…it does away with private property and educates children on a communal basis, and in this way removes the two bases of traditional marriage – the dependence rooted in private property, of the women on the man, and of the children on the parents.
What will be its attitude to existing religions?
…But communism is the stage of historical development which makes all existing religions superfluous and brings about their disappearance. (end of excerpt quotes)
Now, as for The United States of America, Ladies and Gentlemen, let me respectfully remind you of a few facts.
No, The District of Columbia is Not a State, and that was done for a very good reason.
No, You do not have the right to take money from the U.S. Treasury without the permission of the People. And afterwards, Yes, the People have the legal right to know how much, what it was for, and how it was used.
Part of the motivation (besides improper taxation) for the American Revolution, was to also break free of monarchies and royalty. No, American Citizen should bow to a member of royalty.
Yes, The Constitution of the United States clearly defines the duties and powers of the Federal Government. All other powers and duties belong to the States and the People. Government closest to the People is the best government.
Please revist our Founding Fathers and the beliefs and principles upon which our country was founded. Follow them, and you can't go wrong. The Constitution is no more a "living" document than are the Ten Commandments. It is what it is, and it is timeless.
Take a look at the direction our country has been slowly traveling for several decades. Then pay attention to the shift up into hyperdrive that has occurred in the past few months. Compare that to the several Principles of Communism I have listed......If it matters to you, those principles will have to be "scary!" If it is the direction you want for us, then know this. More Americans are opening their eyes, ears and mouths, and I don't think you will succeed.
